Amber Scholarship Fund

  • The Amber Scholarship Fund is administered by the Winnipeg Foundation and provides scholarships to high achieving graduate students studying Microbiology at the University of Manitoba. One scholarship is awarded per year for $1,000.
  • Eligibility: Enrollment as a full-time student in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in any year of study in either the Master’s or doctoral program delivered by the Department of Microbiology at the University of Manitoba
    1. A minimum of 6 credit hours of graduate-level study in their current program in order to be considered for this award.
    2. Minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on the previous 6 credit hours (or equivalent) of study from graduate-level courses the student has taken in their current program;
    3. Outstanding academic achievement and strong research potential.
    4. Application:
  • Applicants will be required to submit an application to the Department of Microbiology by usually by September of each Academic Term. The application usually consists of  of the following materials:
      1. their thesis or dissertation proposal (maximum 1000 words);
      2. a current academic transcript (web transcript acceptable);
      3. One letter of reference from the applicant’s supervisor/advisor or from a professor who has taught the applicant one or more courses. This letter should assess the applicant’s ability to succeed in a graduate program and/or speak to their research potential; a curriculum vitae of the applicant;

Howard Lees Scholarship in Microbiology

  • For a student who becomes a first-year M.Sc. or PhD student in Microbiology within 8 months of graduation with a B.Sc. Honours or Major in Microbiology, Biochemistry or Biotechnology from the University of Manitoba. Nominated by the Department of Microobiology. No application required
