Research and Teaching Interests
Hometown: Winnipeg, Manitoba / Manila, Philippines; B.Sc. (University of Manitoba)
Research project: My research project involves the development of novel antibiotics for the treatment of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections. This multidisciplinary project entails the utilization of organic, biochemical and microbiological knowledge to synthesize and evaluate new antibacterial agents against bacterial pathogens that impose significant threat to our current health system.
Reason for coming to U. Manitoba: I decided to pursue my graduate studies at the U of M because of the excellent and cutting-edge research program in the Department of Chemistry. I have strong affinity towards the antibacterial drug development research program of my supervisor, although other existing research programs certainly have their own merits (such as in materials research, catalysis, structural biology, natural products, bio-imaging and more). Furthermore, the University provides a supportive and nurturing environment for budding young minds not only in terms of research training but as well as leadership, social and pedagogical opportunities.
